Nokhur

Nokhur is a small village located in the mountains in the south of the Kopetdag Range in Turkmenistan. According to local residents, the name of the village comes from the name of the biblical prophet Noah, whose ark, according to legend, moored to Mount Manoman. The local old-timers tell a legend according to which, in ancient times, Noah planted all the animals and birds on the mountains, and also planted all the seeds that were stored on the ark. The village was inhabited by the Turkmens of the Nokhurli mountain tribe, who preserved their culture, traditional crafts and architecture.

Two settlements - Old and New Nokhur - are attractive tourist places and were included in the list of "100 most romantic places in the world." The houses in these settlements have two floors and are made in the traditional architectural style, made of mountain stone. Around the settlements, there are gardens and orchards, which the highlanders cultivate in hard-to-reach places at an altitude of 1600-1800 meters above sea level. In the area of the village there is the Nokhur waterfall (53 meters high), the cave Deva's House, as well as the highest point of the Kopetdag-Uchkui. Not far from the village, there is also a place of fulfillment of desires - Giz bibi.
